Absence of reason
I think that the result of the "surge" will not surprise anybody. The killing of a few thousand more arabs in exchange for the death of a few hundred GIs will not quell the thirst for revenge of the Shia who have a long debt to settle with the Sunnis. The bright young men who embarked the US on the quixotic crusade to "democratize" Mesopotamia, ought to have studied the classics rather than go to business schools, or religious colleges.
After misplacing 13 billion $ in aid, over 3,000 troops and close to a trillion$ in military expenditures, the same geniuses are now pushing for a repeat performance in Iran.
Besides the fact that we can thank them for propping up Iran to the role of regional power, we should put a stop to that madness.
I hold no brief for the mad ayatollahs who wish to bring us back to the Middle Ages. To quote Samuel Harris in "The End of Faith": " ..their religious ideas belong on the same shelf with Batman, the philosopher's stone and the unicorn."
He pursues: " We must come to terms with the possibility that men who are every bit as zealous to die as the 19 hijackers may one day get their hands on long range nuclear weaponry. The muslim world in particular must anticipate the possibility. Given the steady proliferation of technology, it is safe to say that time is not on our side."
And yet, it is the very abandon of reason for a Christian messianic ideology, that has precipitated that dangerous situation.
It is high time to wake up from the apocalyptic dream, and stop trying to solve our problems with laser guided 500 kg bombs!
There are millions of innocent people in Iran . They deserve to be left alone.
